Robot vacuum cleaners and the things we don’t throw away

Am currently vacuuming. And blogging. Well the robotic vacuum cleaner is doing the vacuuming.

I needed a new one and so it was a bit of a spur of the moment purchase to be honest. Anyway, it’s like a little bug and I’ve spent about ten minutes following it around. It appears to be doing quite well!

Meanwhile, I’ve been listening to a few albums I haven’t heard in a while as I continue to unpack. A bit of jazz/swing, the Wicked Soundtrack, Radiohead’s greatest hits. I have an eclectic taste in music.

I still have not done my clothes so good luck to me at 5.30am tomorrow morning!

Can’t find Season 1 of the L Word DVD. Did find passport and birth certificates (thank goodness!). Didn’t think I had matches to light candles but later found a box of matches – the joy was real!

Looking at things as I unpack them and thinking, do I still want this in my life? First cab off the rank that I’m actually debating (as opposed to just going no or yes) is a set of eight Simpson’s Nutella glasses. At first I was like ‘nah, I’ll sell these’ but then I got them on a shelf to photograph and then thought ‘wow, they are pretty cool’. So now they are up on the shelf with no photo taken yet…

It’s funny the things we keep. Sometimes I keep things because they are fun and I really like them. Sometimes I won’t let things like that go because I think they might be worth something financially. But the reality is, anything I could have possibly afforded to collect is probably not going to be worth particularly much. Can’t see me paying my rent on the sale of those glasses, although I have not researched them yet, so you never know!!

Then there are the things that I keep because they have significant meaning to me. My childhood clown doll. Even my own daughter loves him – he does not have a scary clown face! He would never get on American Horror Show Freak Show or scare anyone waking up next to him! But even after 43 years (give or take a few months) he really does give good hugs and I’ve had a few from him over the last few months. Don’t worry, if you date me I will not insist on him being in bed with us.

I’ve got a wonderful new thing that I’ll be keeping for a while. It’s an embroidered work that has the words ‘Just fucking do it’. My boss gave it to me and it’s kind of our motto. But also good to remember for life in general, so I’ve hung it in the wardrobe. Absolutely no irony there at all!

Now, I’d better go and find where that little vacuum cleaner has gone!

PS. Anyone want some Simpson’s glasses?

  1. Hey there, I found you via the NaBloPoMo blogroll.

I love my Roomba. 🙂 I love how I can leave the house and still be vacuuming. That is a super cool trick! 😉

As part of NaBloPoMo I try to comment on as many participating blogs as I can, and I also add participating blogs to my feed reader.

So I’m just dropping by to let you know I’ve added your blog to my feedreader, I’m reading you loud and clear, I have a link up going at my place so my readers can find participating blogs which you are more than welcome to add your blog link to.

Looking forward to seeing your posts. You may see me drop by again during November, but it might be December before I finish my first drop by to blogs if I don’t get faster at leaving comments. 🙂

    Happy NaBloPoMo to you!
